to Characterize Alfalfa Culitvars

1. Proposed standardized tests are to be submitted to the Chairperson of the NAAIC Standard Tests Committee. The format for the standardized test must follow the format of the Third Edition of the Standardized Test to Characterize Alfalfa Culitvars, edited by Cheryl Fox, et.al. Published by the NAAIC. The standardized test must include check cultivars, a list of scientists with expertise, references and in the case of diseases, insects, and nematodes, a distribution and severity U.S. map,

2. The Standard Tests Committee Chairperson will request a minimum of 2 persons who are qualified to peer review the submitted test for their review.

3. The Standard Tests Committee Chairperson will incorporate the comments of the peer reviewers and then notify the membership of the NAAIC that a new standardized test has been proposed and request any comment/clarification/criticism of the proposed standardized test.

4. The Standard Tests Committee Chairperson will incorporate the comments of the NAAIC membership and the finalized version of the proposed standardized test will be presented to the membership for a vote at the biennial NAAIC business meeting. A simple majority vote is necessary for approval. If, however, a standardized test is proposed during a year when the NAAIC does not meet, i.e. an odd numbered year such as 1999, 2001, etc., the executive committee shall vote to approve the proposed standardized test. A simple majority vote is necessary for approval.

5. The approved standardized test will be made available from the executive secretary of the NAAIC.

The NAAIC encourages all members of the NAAIC to submit standardized tests for review and approval. It is not the responsibility of the chairperson of the committee to solicit the membership for the development of new standardized tests.
