Data for percent germination, percent development of mature plants and
biomass data supporting the predictions of the screening processes are
presented. Both screening methods yield similar results and match well with
biomass data. These procedures, coupled with a multiple shoot organogenesis
techniques, are currently being used to develop an aluminum tolerant alfalfa
cultivar by breeding only those individuals identified as low pH and aluminum
tolerant through seed screening.
